Tryouts

Tryouts are very difficult for any young soccer player.

Here are few tips to help young soccer players achieve tryout success:

1. Take a deep breathe! You have plenty of time to showcase your talents to the coaches.

2. Keep it simple - at the beginning. To build confidence in tryouts, make a few short passes that connect to a teammate. After you make a few of these passes, you will be amazed at how confident you become in the game.

3. Know your strengths! If you are good at passing then pass the ball. If you are good at shooting then shoot the ball. If you are good at beating defenders with moves and running past them then do it! If you focus on your talents and strengths you will certainly be able to leave the field saying you showed your talents!

4. Listen up! Listening to everything a coach has to say is extremely important. By listening carefully you will be able to keep track of what is happening, what is happening next and so on.

5. Are you coach-able? This means you are willing to do what the coach says when he or she says it, without complaint. Coaches like players who are willing to listen to instructions and then apply those instructions to whatever they are doing in the activity or game. Being coach-able will allow you to be recognized without even touching a soccer ball. If your efforts show that you are trying to do what the coach asks then you are heading in the right direction!

6. Hustle Points. This is a little from the old-school playbook. Whenever you can, show your ability to work hard, hustle and put in the extra effort!

If you follow the six tips above, you will have a rewarding tryout - regardless of the end result. You will be able to know that you gave everything you had and put yourself in the best position to be selected for a specific level of play. If for any reason you do not make the team or event that you wanted - don't stop playing! This is just a speed-bump in your young soccer career - go over the speed-bump with confidence by working hard on some of your weaknesses, work hard when the coaches are not looking and be ready to show them that they made a mistake at next year's tryouts!

Good luck at tryouts!

Technical Soccer Training

This is a great video of technical soccer training - providing the player the opportunity to see the appropriate technique as well as the coach creating a dynamic training session (practice)...no comments about the music used :):
